2023 Juneteenth Observation
On Saturday, June 17, the Wallingford Historic Preservation Trust partnered with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church to hold a special service and an enslavement walking tour. The event served to mark Juneteenth, the national holiday celebrating the emancipation of African American slaves in 1865 following the end of the Civil War. Trust President Jerry Farrell guided the public around downtown Wallingford, stopping to discuss many of the town’s oldest homes built by its founding families and talking about their slave-owning past.
